Onsite visit to University of Peradeniya

Sri Lanka Council for Agricultural Research Policy (SLCARP) conducted an onsite monitoring program at the Faculties of Science, Agriculture, and Veterinary Medicine and Animal Science of University of Peradeniya, on 06th August 2025. This visit was part of the annual onsite research project monitoring programme carried out across National Agricultural Research System (NARS) institutes.

During the visit, the monitoring team evaluated the progress of three (03) ongoing research projects covering the areas of climate smart agriculture, agronomy, and human monkey conflict. The projects monitored are listed below:

  1. Weather based Blast Disease Forecasting and Early warning systems for climate risk mitigation (NARP/2024/UP/SC/01)

PI: Dr. H.A.C.K. Ariyarathna - Faculty of Science

  1. Investigation of the effect of fodder maize - legume intercropping on the forage yield and nutritive value of green chop and silage (NARP/2024/UP/AG/01)

PI: Dr. M.B.P. Kumara Mahipala - Faculty of Agriculture

  1. Field experiment on introducing an intra uterine device (IUD) to trouble making female monkeys, castrating sub adult males and examining the presence of Arbo virus, Bunya virus and Malaria in monkeys (NARP/2025/UP/VS/01)

Padmini (Deputy Director - Research Management, SLCARP), and Ms. H.K.T. Dinushka (Research Officer, SLCARP).
