Enhancing Research Proposal Writing Skills for National Agricultural Research System (NARS) Scientists

Sri Lanka Council for Agricultural Research Policy (SLCARP) and Postgraduate Institute of Agriculture (PGIA) collaboratively organized a two-day training workshop on “Enhancing Research Proposal Writing Skills for National Agricultural Research System (NARS) scientists” on 16th and 17th July 2025.

The program aimed to strengthen the capacity of NARS researchers in developing high-quality, competitive, and impactful research proposals aligned with national agricultural development priorities. The resource persons are Prof. B. Marambe, Prof. Devika de Costa, Prof D.W.S. Dandeniya, Prof T. Sivananthawerl, Prof. M. I. M. Mowjood, Prof. G.L.L.P. Silva and Prof. H.M. Gunathilake.

During the workshop, participants gained hands-on experience in formulating researchable questions, conducting systematic literature reviews, designing robust methodologies, addressing ethical considerations, and developing realistic timelines and performance indicators. They also learned to differentiate research outputs, outcomes, and impacts, synthesize proposals into cohesive concept notes, and provide constructive peer feedback. This program served as a key platform for researchers to enhance their proposal writing skills.

At the conclusion of the program, certificates were awarded to all participants who successfully completed the training, recognizing their commitment to advancing Sri Lanka’s agricultural research and development.
