Hon. Duminda Dissnayake Minister of Agriculture requested cabinet to allocate Rs. 300 Million a year to train National Agricultural Research System Scientist at PhD level. Government has allocated Rs. 300 Million per year over the next 5 years for this purpose. Delegation headed by Secretary Ministry of Agriculture Mr. B. Wijerathna, Dr. S D G Jayawardena Chairman Sri Lanka Council for Agricultural Research Policy, Dr. Rohan Wijekoon Director General Department of Agriculture visited University Putra Malaysia, Kasetsart University Thailand, University of Los Banos Philippines and established linkages for this purpose in November 2017. First candidate of this program Ms. Shyali Iroshini Rathnayake a Plant Breeder from Department of Agriculture who received admission to Kasetsart University Thailand was handed over the award letter and air ticket to Thailand. Many more Scientist under this scheme will be awarded scholarship by Sri Lanka Council for Agricultural Research Policy for Postgraduate Studies in Malaysia, Thailand and Philippines within the next 5 years.
